When Professor Bernal Carlo began her research in 1996, she was exploring animal and plant species in a small Brazilian forest. These days, Professor Carlo is dedicated to creating programs in Math and English for students with her $100,000 MetLife Foundation award. When empowered, she believes, one can do great things, and advises junior faculty, “Learn from senior faculty and see within you the possibility to become a leader.”
